SIMPLICITY

Tulips in the Springtime! What could be more refreshing? I set this table before I started stacking my plates, influenced by my tablescaping friends. The table was an early one and reminds me that simplicity can be strikingly beautiful. 

Before I started tablescaping, I had a dinner party for a new friend who raved about the beauty of the china. She lifted the plate and exclaimed, “It is Fitz and Floyd.” I had no clue what she was talking about. Little did I know that her comment would set me on a journey to seek and find all the Fitz and Floyd I could. I had fallen in love. That is the explanation for the tulip plates. I then found them in black and more in blue. Yes, that is LOVE. My love has brought me friends from all over the world. We enjoy “Setting the Table” and each other as well.

The red vase with the white tulips is a deliberate choice because it is the reverse of the colors in the plates for a counterpoint to add interest. The goblets were purchased a garage sale and are very simple. Since I set the table, I have purchased black goblets which would have worked also. However, I think the clear ones reflect the glass tabletop and are probably better. I used my mom’s sterling on purpose to make the table more traditional – a good contrast to the contemporary looking plates. The napkin rings are from a dear friend given to me on my 80th birthday. I use them often. 

What does this table say? “Never be afraid to try something new.” I had loved setting tables all my life but had never considered posting them for the world to see. It took courage to do that, risking that they would not be liked. Little did I know what a tremendous world would open to me because of Tablescaping  and the friends it brought. It was well worth taking a risk!!!
