Every table was built for a purpose. Yet the beauty and artistry of its tablescape transcends that purpose, awakening emotional and spiritual resonance. The table then becomes what it was truly meant to be, a place that speaks more than of our immediate needs, a place of rest, restoration, and renewal. The table connects and unites.
“What did becoming 80 mean?” That was the question I wanted to answer with this table to celebrate my eightieth birthday. It speaks of lovely memories from the past and promise of things to come.
I pulled out the cake stand which has been in my life for almost 80 years. As a child my family had a neighbor who baked each of my sisters and me an angel food cake for each of our birthdays. Turning the cake stand upside down is a symbol of different and new things to come.
